ACCA Simpson Scholarship
Winners announced
29 Sep 2008
ACCA's Simpson Scholarship winners for 2008 have been announced.
Mahfuzur Rahman from Bangladesh, Sharon Chiyangwa from the UK, Farida Asgerali from Tanzania, Tetyana Merenyuk from the Ukraine, and Chipambaniso Chongo from Zambia will now be able to complete their studies for free.
As an added bonus, they will also receive a complete set of learning materials from ACCA's official publishers, BPP Learning Media and Kaplan Publishing.
A specially convened judging panel had the task of selecting the five winners from more than 300 applications from 49 countries. This comprised ACCA Council members Sara Harvey and Tony Cushing, Clare Minchington, managing director - learning and technical policy, and Laurie Gillow, director - international corporate development.
'The students who have been successful in gaining the scholarship are exceptional,' said Clare Minchington. 'In many cases they have not only had to overcome obstacles in their lives, but they are also striving to help others achieve their aims and are determined to give something back to their communities. Making the decision about which students should receive the Scholarship this year was incredibly difficult, but the five students we have chosen are truly inspirational and we know they will make very good use of the Scholarship.'
The Simpson Scholarship was set up following the death of Muriel Simpson FCCA, who left in her will a bequest to ACCA to fund a scholarship to further the education of ACCA students who have proven themselves to be of sufficient merit and distinction in ACCA examinations.
The Simpson Scholarship Fund is registered with the Charity Commission for England and Wales, charity 283763.
Registered with OSCR, charity SC039878.
